Fiona McKinnon graduated from Harvard University with a BA in English and American Literature and Language in 2000, and obtained her law degree from University of Virginia in 2007. She was admitted to the Washington bar in 2008.
Prior to joining Watson Immigration Law, Fiona was an associate at the Law Offices of Alan Parra in Washington, DC from September 2008 through November 2009, practicing exclusively in the area of U.S. Immigration and Naturalization law with a focus on political asylum.
Before that, Fiona was Haywood-Burns fellow at the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild in Boston, Massachusetts and interned at the Hungarian Helsinki Committee in Budapest.
Membership
Fiona is currently a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the American Bar Association, the National Immigration Project and Detention Watch Network.
Community Activities
Fiona has been an enthusiastic member of the pro bono community in
Kalispell, Montana; Charlottesville, Virginia and in the
Washington, DC area. She has been a board member of the Public
Interest Law Association at the University of Virginia. Fiona has
investigated refugee law and policy in India as part of a human
rights study project, and represented low-income clients through
the Legal Aid Justice Center’s immigration clinic. She plans to
continue her community involvement here in Seattle.
Hobbies and Languages
Fiona has lived in Budapest, Hungary; Nizas, France and Guanajuato,
Mexico. She has traveled extensively in Eastern and Western
Europe, Central America, Ethiopia and India. She speaks
Spanish proficiently and reads French and Italian. In her
spare time, Fiona likes to read, edit, explore and cook.
